Dolly Singh joined Asha Rising in 2021 and is considered an excellent cook by our residents who greatly enjoy her meals. She comes to us from the community of Khidderpore, another red light area in South Kolkata. Dolly, our beloved cook, has three children.

Saraswati Das joined the Asha Rising team in 2019 and has been both an attendant to our residents and a cook. During the height of the pandemic, Saraswati stayed with residents during days and nights and met the crisis with tremendous dedication and care. Saraswati is a widow from the local community and has two grown children.

Uma Rana joined Asha Rising in 2016 as a physical instructor and yoga teacher. She works with our residents a few times a week and has created a special bond with all our residents. Uma finished her Yoga trainer program from North Calcutta District Yoga Training and Research Association in 1990. She also works as a personal trainer.

Krishna Biswas, our Crafts teacher, loved playing with dolls ever since she was little. After her marriage, she developed an interest in soft toys but found there were no classes being offered in how to make them. So she started making her own–and so began not only her wholesale business of selling soft toys, but also her work with our residents at Asha Rising. Krishna works closely with residents teaching them how to make a variety of dolls, soft items, and crafts.
